SCHEDULE OF SERVICES

Our practice provides services from four health professions: Psychology, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Dietitian. Children and their families are our area of specialisation but specific adult services are also provided. Our aim is to promote and advance the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of children with regard to the family as the primary teaching and socialising influence. We maintain a particular commitment to children with disabilities. All our clinicians are fully qualified, Queensland registered and have a minimum of 5 years professional experience in paediatric services. They are all registered providers with the major health insurance funds.

PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES (Children, Adults and Families)
· Assessment and treatment of psychological and emotional / behavioural problems in children and adolescents.
· Assessment of intellectual or cognitive development / screening for developmental and learning disorders in children from 2 to 18 years.
· Assessment and treatment of problems in family functioning and parenting.
· Adult psychotherapy / counselling and relationship counselling.
· Assessment and treatment programs for intellectual disability and pervasive developmental disorders.


SPEECH PATHOLOGY SERVICES (Children & also Adults with Disabilities)
· Assessment and treatment of language disorders and speech disorders (including stuttering) in children and in adults with developmental disabilities. Trained in the PROMPT approach.
· Provision of alternative and augmentative communication systems to adults and children including Makaton approach and Facilitated Communication.
· Assessment and treatment of language related learning disorders in children.
· Feeding difficulties.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SERVICES (Children Only)
· Assessment and treatment of fine motor difficulties / dysfunction, developmental problems and disorders.
· Assessment and treatment of visual perceptual deficits.
· Treatment of school related fine motor problems (writing difficulties, fine motor co-ordination, eye tracking and eye-hand co-ordination).
· Rehabilitation / assessment of post injury loss of adaptive living skills.
· Prescription of adaptive equipment and aids.

PAEDIATRIC DIETITIAN.

· Assessment of dietary intake and advice on nutritional/growth concerns.
· Common referrals are for: - failure to thrive; specific nutritional deficiencies (e.g. iron); allergies/intolerances; fussy eaters; eating disorders; diabetes; obesity.
· Management of diet for disorders where dietary intake is crucial.

Training courses / seminars and presentations available. We can come to your venue or our own seminar room can be utilised.

PSYCHOLOGIST

Aaron Wallbank B.Sc. (Psych) Uni. of NSW. G.M.Q. (Griffith).

Aaron has 16 years experience as a psychologist in public health services and private practice in NSW and Queensland and specialises in the child and family area. He has particular interest in disorders affecting child development and learning and also in problems of family functioning (stress, parent / child relationships, emotional and behavioural problems in children). He also has an interest and experience in psychotherapy with adult abuse survivors and general counselling and cognitive therapy. Aaron has worked extensively with medical practitioners, kindergartens, educators and child health professionals on the Gold Coast over the last 11 years including 7 years in private practice He is married with four children


SPEECH PATHOLOGISTS

Meg Houghton Dip. Sp. Thy. Dip. Ed. MSPA

Meg graduated from Cumberland College in Sydney and has 25 years experience as a speech pathologist working in hospitals, community services, education departments and other facilities in various States. She has a special interest in communication problems in young infants and children, and has experience with many augmentative and alternative forms of communication. Feeding problems, particularly in early infancy, is another area of special interest. She is a registered provider of the Fast ForWord programmes which target language skills and central auditory processing disorders. She is also a qualified infants / primary teacher. Meg is an instructor for the PROMPT Institute and a PROMPT therapist. She is completing her Masters (Clinical Research) at the University of Queensland. Meg is married with 2 children.

Karyn Johns B. App. Sc. (Speech & Hearing)

Karyn graduated from the Curtin University of Technology W.A. and has 11 years experience as a speech language pathologist in community health clinics and Education Departments in various states. Karyn has special interest and experience in language related learning difficulties in preschool and school age children. Provision of information to teaching staff on incorporating strategies into the classroom to assist the child with language learning difficulties is another area of special interest. Karyn is also a qualified PROMPT therapist. She is married with 2 children.

Kathryn Daniels B. App. Sc. (Speech & Hearing)

Kathryn graduated from the University of Queensland. She has been employed as speech language pathologist in a variety of settings in various states. Kathryn has special interest and experience in language related learning difficulties and speech disorders (including stuttering) in preschool and school age children. She also works with adults who have suffered head injury or a stroke. Kathryn is a qualified PROMPT therapist and experienced in using PROMPT with children, adolescents and adults. Kathryn is married with 3 children.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Louise Hunt B.Occ.Th. (Uni of Qld).

Louise has had six years experience working with children aged between 0 - 18 who have various orthopaedic, cognitive and neuromuscular conditions or Acquired Brain Injury. Louise has expertise and experience with children who have learning difficulties, developmental delays and intellectual impairment. She provides treatment for children with delays in the areas of fine motor coordination, for example: pre-writing and handwriting skills, scissor skills. drawing and pencil grasp and control. Upper limb function, sensory integration skills and visual perceptual skills are also common areas treated by occupational therapy. Louise is also a certified Power Play trainer and has had much experience working in schools with children. Louise is married and has twins.

PAEDIATRIC DIETITIAN.

Lyza Norton. B.Sc.M.N.D.

Lyza graduated from Flinders University in S.A. in 1994 with a Degree in Science majoring in Biochemistry. She then went on to complete a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics also at Flinders University. Since then she has worked in both hospital and community settings. She has recently completed a postgraduate paediatric nutrition course through the University of Melbourne and is the only provider on the Gold Coast specializing in the paediatric population. Lyza works only with children and adolescents providing assessment of dietary intake and advise on nutritional/growth concerns. She has a special interest in early intervention for children with obesity with a focus on family lifestyle changes.
